Hello there! My name is Ash Diaz, and I am a New York-based artist and writer. For fourteen years, I was a music and art teacher in the Bronx before embarking on a career in illustration. When I’m not drawing, reading, or cooking, I’m cuddling with my cats, Dart and Dash, or caring for the neighborhood stray cats. In case it isn’t obvious, I really like cats.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY and Holderness, NH are my happy places. And Tarpon Springs, FL for some reason.
Some of my favorite books include Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, Jessica Townsend’s Nevermoor series, Norman Juster’s The Phantom Tollbooth, and various manga by horror extraordinaire Junji Ito. Anoosha Syed, Tomie dePaola, Eric Carle, Paola Escobar, and Faith Ringgold are some of my favorite illustrators for children’s books.
